Malekith is a great start on The Sundering trilogy. It is very interesting to finally read some background stories on the elves and their earlier relations with the dwarves. In my experience with Gav Thorpe, this is one of his expertises.
At first I was very surprised on the kindness of Malekith, as I have read a bit about him in the Darkblade stories, but as the story progresses, you kind of sense the simmering evil inside him.
The ending was kind of steep, which I think is a bit unfortunate as it had a potential for something spectacular due to the great build-up. I hope the second book in the series will look into this and smooth some of the rough edges.
I am definitely looking forward to read the next book in the series!

Good book on how everything started. It gives you a great basis for finding plots for your own adventures, based on ancient grudges and alliances before the Empire was the Empire. Unfortunately the plot is very slow and when it gets going Graham McNeill cuts quite a few corners to get to the goal, in my opinion. This is a shame, since this trilogy is to be the back bone of the whole Empire. My guess is that this is done to keep the book around the classic 400 pages. I’m still looking forward to the following two books in the trilogy.
